La Chambre aux Confitures Delights the Tastebuds

Step into La Chambre aux Confitures in Paris and prepare to be overwhelmed by the selection of confitures, honeys and spreads.  Small jars of artisinal jams and jellies abound here and you can taste test each and every one of them.

Sometimes the best things you experience are not planned. This wonderful little shop was definitely not in our plans! We had lunch at Mariage Frères tea at 30 rue Bourg Tibourg in the Marais after which we restocked on our favorite teas. Our next stop for tea was Palais des Thés at 64 rue Vieille du Temple. This was actually stop two of three for tea – we love French tea! If you love the very best of teas, check out my Paris Marais Walk for tea lovers.

We never saw this sweet little store as we entered the Palais des Thés. We were busy chatting about which teas we each wanted.  Some women buy shoes like Carrie in Sex in the City and others buy purses but I buy tea. Exiting with Palais des Thés store with more tea, we were face to face with La Chambre aux Confitures at 60 rue Vieille du Temple.

What to buy at La Chambre aux Confitures

We entered on a whim. I’ll buy homemade confitures or specialty honey at a local farmers market in France but in general I don’t make it a point to seek out entire stores of those type of products as they add to the baggage weight at the airport.

As you can see, shelves lined the store with over 100 types of jams, jellies, confitures, honey and other yummy spreads for your toast. And they encourage you to taste test them. But who knew there was more to these lovely little jars than just a topping for toast.

We came home with several jars of various yummies. Caramel au beurre salé was destined for ice cream or pound cake. Griotte et chocolat (morello cherry and chocolate) would find its way to my morning toastas well as a honey from bees who feasted on lavender, and a jar of geranium gelée. Geranium, who knew! A dollop of this on yogurt in the morning turns an ordinary morning into something special. When you put this on vanilla ice cream it is just plain decadent.

La Chambre aux Confitures even have candles but I had to draw the line somewhere.  I’m really glad this little shop is close to our favorite tea shops. It will be easy to find again!
