Hotel Accommodations that We Enjoyed

Hotels-Accommodations choices can sometimes be over-whelming when searching for hotels or gites in France. I will post some of our favorite gites in France and hotels where we have stayed. Our favorites in Paris will be posted on the Paris accommodations link. if you have a favorite place to stay, I hope you will share it with us! (Hint- when searching the internet for hotel-accomodations I always search for budget accommodations or gites in France.)

If you have not heard the wordgite before, it is the French word for holiday home. Gites in France are great places to stay if you are going to be in an area for a week or more. You will spend so much less than on hotels-accommodations by staying in a gite.

Did you ever think that you could spend a week in France and only spend 50 euros a night on hotels-accommodations for a family of 4! There are plenty 2 bedroom ghotels-accommodations1ites to be had for only 350 euros a week.

It is so nice to be able to “come home” in the evening and just relax on the terrace enjoying a glass of wine and conversation about the day! Gites in France usually carry a rating by epis (ears of corn) instead of by stars. We always stay in 2 epis gites and have never been disappointed. We have made some wonderful friends in the gite owners. Here is my son-in-law being assisted in some bike repair by our wonderful gite owner at Aux Pierres Fleuries!

In your search for hotels-accommodations you will also come across the term chambre d’hotes which is French for bed and breakfast.

AUX PIERRES FLEURIES (neat Chalon-sur-Saône)

hotel-accomodations-auxpierreAux Pierres Fleuries is located in the southern Burgundy region not far from Chalon-sur-Saône. The gite is in the hamlet of Curtil-sous-Burnand, about 5 km from St- Gengoux-le-National which has a wonderful market, a small supermarket and two bakeries. Aux Pierres Fleuries is about 3 km from the Voie Vert. The gite has two bedrooms and has a great terrace with a grill. The included two bicycles with the rental. (My husband is returning from a trip to the supermarket with a few things in the picture.)The owners are wonderfully friendly helpful people! We have stayed there for two consecutive years and when we did not go to this region of France this summer we definitely had a sense of “not going home for the summer”!Check them out at Aux Pierres Fleuries (southern Burgandy)

Gite in Fossé (near Blois in Loire Valley)

Gite Moulin D'ArrivayThe Moulin d’Arrivay is actually owned by the local council. It was at one time a watermill and is located along the river Cisse. This gite has a huge living room and an equally big eat in kitchen. All the space, both inside an out make it the perfect place for families. The gite is located about 9km north of Blois so it is an ideal location if you are exploring the Loire Valley. Our stay here was most memorable. Go to Gites de France to check out Gite number G593

Hotel du Bellay, Blois (Loire Valley)

Hotel Du Bellay is located in Blois, France on a quiet side street. It is a basic, clean hotel that is very centrally located. From here we were able to walk to the local market, the castle, and generally anywhere we wanted to go! There is a great pizza place just down the street. A nice collection of pictures are provided on the website of Hotel du Bellay

Hotel Saint Jean (Chalon sur Saone)

Hotel Saint Jean faces the river in Chalon sur Saone and was a great place to stay! The windows in the large, clean room opened to the river – great views and wonderful breeze! I traveled solo and chose it due to the distance from the train station.  Okay, so maybe I caved in and rented a taxi, but I could have walked! It was centrally located for shopping, sightseeing, and the weekly markets. You can see pictures of the rooms at their website Hotel Saint Jean

Hôtel des Ducs(Dijon)

As far as hotels-accommodations go, I would rate Hôtel des Ducs as amazing place. I was in Dijon, without a car and this beautiful hotel was an easy walk to and from the train station, markets and all the tourist sites. It is only a short train ride (or drive) to both Beaune and Chalon sur Saone from Dijon. There is a car rental at the train station so it is also easy to rent a car for the day if you want to do that. Check out their web page at Hôtel des Ducs
