Chocolate Mousse is a Decadent Dessert!

Chocolate mousse, is a decadent chocolate dessert called Mousse au chocolat in France. It will bring rounds of praise from your family or guests. This creamy dessert melts in your mouth with a consistency that comes straight from heaven.

A mousse can be savory or sweet but I much prefer sweet over savory. Mousse is definitely not like an American pudding. Puddings, whether they be vanilla, chocolate, lemon or caramel are always cooked if made from scratch. A mousse, on the other hand is not cooked. The closest this recipe comes to being cooked is that the chocolate is melted over a bain marie which is heated on the stove.

Ingredients

  • 200 grams Lindt chocolate (my preference is the 70%)
  • 3 eggs, separated and 2 extra whites
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of Grand Marnier or Cointreau

Directions

  • Chop chocolate.
  • Slowly melt chocolate in a bain marie (double boiler).
  • Remove from heat, stir in egg yolks and Grand Marnier.
  • Let cool.
  • Place egg whites and salt in a chilled bowl and whisk (or use mixer) until soft peaks are formed.
  • Fold ¼ of the whipped whites into the cooled chocolate mixture and then fold in the remaining whites. Fold gently so as to not destroy the air bubbles created when whisking the whites.

Place into individual serving dishes, and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Bon Appetit
