Are you ready for some Burgundy Adventures? Burgundy is located in the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté with gorgeous woods, lakes, and hilly landscapes. When you think of France, you think of wine. France is one of the largest wine producers in the world. Several wine regions in the country are loved by tourists.

Burgundy has always been one of these famous wine regions.

In 51 B.C. the Romans found that Celts were producing wine in this area. Nowadays, Burgundy is best known for its red and white wines. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the most common grape varieties in the region.

In Burgundy, several wine routes introduce you to the many vineyards hidden in superb natural spots. An iconic sight that you shouldn’t miss is the Roche de Solutré. If you’re looking for adventure, you can climb this 493-metre-high rock for stunning views over the Saône Valley and the Alps.

Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan.

In addition to its beautiful villages and towns, Burgundy is mainly a region where nature is center of attention. You can take this literally because in the centre of Burgundy lies Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan.

Characterizing this natural treasure are hilly forest areas and fauna, as well as  waterways and ponds. About fifty species of animals live here and there is a good chance that you will see a roe deer by one of the lakes or wild boars and foxes in the forest. The Morvan is the ideal place to walk in Burgundy. Many splendid footpaths that take you along the most beautiful landscapes.

And Don’t Forget the Castles!

Of course, France is also the country of castles. In Burgundy there are numerous castles that you shouldn’t miss. The castle of Cormatin,  one of the few 17th century inspired castles left in France, is a beautiful attraction with many influences from the Renaissance period.

The castle of Clos de Vougeot is also a pearl of Burgundy because of its location in the open fields. One of the most famous sights in Burgundy is the Abbey of Fontenay. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is situated in a secluded green valley far from civilization.

Dijon and Beaune

Don’t miss the chance to see the capital of Burgundy, Dijon. There you will find old mansions and many cosy restaurants.

If you are looking for the wine capital of Burgundy, you should be in Beaune. It is located in the heart of Côte d’Or wine region, which actually means ‘golden slopes’. Beaune is the place to taste the best wines. In the city you will find even a wine museum. In Musée du Vin you will learn everything about producing wines and the region.
