Paris Gardens

There are over 400 parks and gardens in Paris! Come with us to some of the Paris Gardens that are a bit on the secluded side (and some that are not)!

  • Arènes de Lutèce

    (Arena of Lutèce)
    This Paris garden is actually the site of Paris’ oldest Gallo-Roman ruin from the second century A.D. According to the sign located there, the arena could hold 10,000 people. So take the metro to Place-Monge, Jussieu or Cardinal-Lemoine. Entrances can be found on rue des Arènes, rue de Navarre or rue Monge.

  • Paris Botanical Gardens
    Jardins des Plantes , Paris’ Botanical Garden also includes the Museum of Natural History and the Menagerie. The Menagerie (zoo) is a delight! Go to  Metro Jussieu (lines 7 and 10) or Metro Gare Austerlitz (lines 5 and 10). You will find the Gardens bordered by rue Cuvier, rue Buffon, rue Linne and Quai Saint-Bernard.

  • Centre culturel irlandais

    Irish Cultural Center)
    Gardens associated with cultural centers provide the ideal quiet oasis you may be looking for. Go to metro stop Place-Monge or RER: Luxembourg. Then, the entrance to this garden can be found at 5 rue des Irlandais.

  • Clos des Blancs-Manteaux

    (Blancs-Manteaux Enclosed Garden)
    Go to either metro stop Hotel-de-Ville or Rambuteau and then to 21 rue des Blancs-Manteaux. This enclosed Paris garden is closed on weekdays. It is isolated and brimming with the beauty of flowers, veggies and aromatic herbs.

  • Jardin Catherine-Labouré

    (Catherine Labouré Garden)
    Take either metro stop Sèvres-Babylone or Vaneau and enter at 33 rue de Babylone. Be sure you do not get distracted by the Prime Minister’s garden at number 57 as it is for restricted audiences.

  • Jardin de l’École normale supérieure 

    (one of Paris’ elite schools of higher education)
    Arrive via to metro stop Censier-Daubenton, Place-Monge or the RER: Luxembourg. Then,  enter the school garden during school hours. The address is at 45 rue d’Ulm. This beautiful garden was enjoyed by the likes of Georges Pompidou, Paul Sartre and Louis Pasteur when they are students at this prestigious school.

  • Jardin du Luxembourg (Luxembourg Gardens)

    Take the metro to Odéon or the RER: Luxembourg and enter on rue Guynemer, rue de Vaugirard, rue de Médicis, rue Auguste-Comte or boulevard Saint-Michel. Bring your children to float boats in the fountain or do as some do and bring you knitting while you enjoy the beauty in this one of Paris Gardens!

  • Jardin du Palais-Royal (The Palais Royal Garden)

    Take the metro to the Palais-Royal- Musée-du-Louvre stop. The entrances to this garden are found on rue de Montpensier, rue de Beaujolais, and rue de Valois. The garden is open daily with armchairs scattered throughout the sun and shade of Linden trees.

  • Rue Payenne

    Take the metro to Saint-Paul or Chemin Vert. The two gardens found here provide an excellent respite from the hustle and bustle of your shopping expedition in the Marais. First we find the square Georges located across from the Swedish Cultural Center on rue Payenne and then behind the Cultural Center on rue Elzévir we find the second garden.

  • Jardin Saint-Gilles-Grand-Veneur

    (Saint Gilles Grand Veneur Garden)
    Take the metro to Chemin-Vert. There are two entrances. One si on rue des Arquebusiers and the other on rue Villehardouin. Now, feast your ears on the sound of the tolling bell of the nearby church. The sights of rose trellises and trees are a feast for the eyes. This is the perfect place for a little pause or eat the sandwich you purchased at a nearby boulangerie.
