Château d’Amboise is a Majestic Feature of Amboise

The French castle, Château d’Amboise, soars above the river Loire in the beautiful little riverside town of Amboise.

Although Amboise has a busy tourist trade, my favorite time to photograph city streets is during the lunch hour when everyone is either at a cafe or home eating. The styles of architecture are much easier to see!

The gentle climb as you leave the river and approach the chateau is lined with flowers and sidewalk cafes.

Château d’Amboise is the site of the origin of the French formal garden and is the place where King Francois I grew up.  Gothic architecture  awaits my exploration!

At the invitation of the King, Leonardo da Vinci came to the château as a guest. He lived and worked at Clos Lucé which was connected to the château by an underground tunnel. The Chapel of St. Hubert contains Da Vinci’s remains.

The day was chilly even though it was mid-May – too chilly to stand out an enjoy the views from the shadowy arches!
Inside, the fire felt wonderful . However, unless you stood very close, the warmth all but disappeared with the massive ceiling height and the abundance of stone.
